chasing bawa is 1 today!

14 July, 2010

Yay! I can’t believe it’s a year since I started blogging and I’m still so excited about it. One of the main things that surprised me about blogging is how much fun it is. Apart from making me think a little more about the books I read, I love the way blogging has introduced me to other people who love books as much as I do. And I even got to meet a few bloggers who are all lovely in person as online. And not just books, the whole act of reading, our choices and what it says about our relationship with life and the world is endlessly fascinating to me.

So thank you each and everyone one of you who has taken a little time out of your busy lives to take a peek and sometimes comment on my blog. And thank you to the publishers who have kindly sent me books I wanted to read, I really appreciate it. I started this blog for myself, but it’s become so much more and has enriched my life tremendously!

I even made myself a cake! Really? Of course not, this is my favourite red velvet cupcake from Hummingbird, yum!

So to celebrate, I am proposing a book giveaway. Ta da! I don’t normally do these because 1) I’m disorganised and 2) I’m extremely lazy but since I’m in a happy mood, I’ll give away one book which I have mentioned on my blog to one person who comments (it doesn’t have to be fully reviewed but needs to be mentioned, in print and available from The Book Depository so it’s open internationally). So get checking and start commenting! I’ll pick a winner from a hat in a week’s time (July 21st, midnight GMT).

Good luck!

  1. Congratulations on your first bloggiverasy! I’m so pleased that blogging has enriched your life and I hope that you enjoy it just as much next year ๐Ÿ™‚

I love the fact that you are doing an international giveaway, but I’m trying to limit the books that come into my house at the moment. I’ll let someone else have the joy of winning!

  2. Tony Says:

Yay – happy blogbirthday ๐Ÿ™‚ (and many more to come!)

On brief perusal, I would plump for ‘Interpreter of Maladies’ by Jhumpa Lahiri, thank you very much ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Yay!!! Happy Blog Birthday!!!!! What a great year you’ve had and what a tremendous blog you have! Here’s to many more years of blogging and book binging ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would love a copy of the first in the Amelia Peabody series (I looked for it in Waterstones the other day but they didn’t have it). I think I’d love this series.

No need to enter me as I seem to have won quite a few giveaways lately and have a ton of my own books anyway, am a little bit swamped at the moment!

HAPPY 1 YEAR! Congratulations!! That is such a huge milestone. I’m glad that you’ve been enjoying your year so much, here is to many more. And many more of those cupcakes which looks too tasty for words.

    Happy blogday to you!

Congratulations on reaching the one year milestone ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t read The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, and everyone who has read it seems to have loved it so that’s the one I would pick – especially after your enthusiastic review!

Does that mean that bloggers are like the Queen? We have two birthdays?

  7. Melissa Says:

    Happy blogiversary!!!

  8. Steph Says:

Not going to enter your giveaway because I have tons of books that need to be read, but just wanted to wish you a happy blogiversary! Here’s hoping you have many more!

  9. Happy first blog birthday! Mmmm, cupcakes… I was at Bea’s of Bloomsbury today and indulged in one (and a half) myself.

I would love to be entered into your give-away and I would choose Naomi by Junichiro Tanizaki please.

will think about the book giveaway thingy -nice idea.

off the topic, are cupcakes like a trend over there? they are so pretty to look at, but never noticed this much elaboration on cupcakes before. they should land on Tokyo too : )

Congratulations! I started visiting here pretty recently. You blog like such a pro, I’m surprised you’ve only been doing it for a year. No need to enter me in the giveaway; I’ve just been meaning to say thank-you for introducing me to Junichiro Tanazaki. Best wishes for you next blogging year.

  15. chasing bawa Says:

Thanks everyone! It’s funny to see how many people are trying hard not to accumulate any more books. If you change your mind, you still have time to comment and let me know what you’d like ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Iris Says:

Happy 1 year blog anniversary! I know I’m late, but I haven’t been around much in blogging land this week. One year is quite a mile stone, I’m only blogging for (almost) 6 months now.

I have to admit that I find it hard to resist entering and I’d like to try for Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. I’ve noticed how much you love his writing and I feel I really should try one of his books sometime.

  17. Feanor Says:

Hey. Congrats on milestone. By the way, if you are curious in what style you write, you can check out this website. I tried it with two different posts, and the first time it came up as ‘I write like David Foster Wallace’ and the second as ‘James Joyce.’ But then H.P.Lovecraft, it appears, writes like James Joyce, too. Ha!

  18. Eva Says:

Happy blogiversary! Love reading your blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Eva Says:

Forgot to add, I’d love to win Love Marriage!

  20. gaskella Says:

A belated happy blogbirthday! May there be many more.

I’d love to win ‘The Einstein Girl’.

  21. Yay, congrats! ///

I’m glad to see you treated yourself to such a deliciously looking cake… Yum!

And it’s so kind of you to celebrate with an international giveaway — it would be rude to pass on that, wouldn’t it? ๐Ÿ˜›

Two books you’ve made me put on my wishlist (among others) are The Sweetness on the Bottom of the Pie and The Einstein Girl. Should I be the lucky winner (oh, if I only would!) I’d like you to choose which one to send me!

Btw, I’ll be picking up The Poisonwood Bible too, after I have finished Sarah Waters’ Affinity! ๐Ÿ™‚

ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR NEXT RUN OF CHASING BAWA!

  22. savidgereads Says:

A belated Happy Blogoversary to you!
