Once Upon A Time V is here!

21 March, 2011

It’s that time of year again and Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings has announced the start of the Once Upon a Time V Challenge where you can participate to read and share some fantasy, fairy tale, folklore and mythology and most of all to have fun.

The challenge runs from March 21st to June 20th and I will once again participate at The Journey level where I commit to reading at least one book from within any of the categories. Hopefully I’ll read more than one, but as I seem to be reading lots of fantasy chunksters at the moment (i.e. Steven Erikson’s Malazan books), I doubt I would be able to read more than a couple. We’ll see as I’m on a fantasy kick, hehe.

But I do have some great choices:

Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson – 1st in the series, a re-read
Midnight Tides by Steven Erikson – 5th in the series
Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin – 2nd in the series
The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss – 2nd in the series
The Thousandfold Thought by R. Scott Bakker – 3rd in the series
The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie – 1st in the series, a re-read
The Map of Time by Felix Palmer

Hm, I seem to be in the middle of an awful lot of series. Of course, I may end up reading something completely different but if I can at least read a couple from here, my job is done.

As usual, the buttons and banners are GORGEOUS. So, will you be joining us? Can I sway you to try out some fantasy and speculative fiction?

I’m joining, of course. 🙂 Loved the Clash of Kings series by George R. R. Martin. I should continue reading in those. Thanks for the good reminder!

  2. Stephanie Says:

I agree – the buttons for this challenge are gorgeous!

  3. Kailana Says:

Several of the authors on your list exist on my TBR, but I still haven’t read them! I have read Rothfuss, though, and am looking forward to his sequel sometime soon. 🙂

  4. Carl V. Says:

Thanks for joining in! I will be reading Wise Man’s Fear as well and am going to try to work in time to get back to Clash of Kings. I am about a fourth of the way through it.

  5. Sakura Says:

    Stephanie: Absolutely!

Kailana: Seems quite a few people will be reading the second Rothfuss as there’s been a lot of publicity and waiting.

Carl V: I’m hoping this will finally be the year I read Clash of Kings as I’ve been dithering for a while:)

  6. Carl V. Says:

I know the feeling. What makes it worse is the length of these books. I tend to want to run away from books that top the 500 page mark.

  7. The banners are the best! I’m joining for The Journey as well.
