On a bookish note, I took four books with me on holiday but didn’t manage to read even one this time. Shock horror, indeed. But it was a very busy holiday with lots of friends and activities and I did fly on the new Emirates A380 which had the most mouthwatering selection of films (including Japanese) to watch even before takeoff. I didn’t sleep a wink either. That makes me sound like I only ever fly on shitty airlines…

But I do recommend the live action Japanese film Rurouni Kenshin which had some fantastic fighting scenes. Based on the manga of the same name by Nobuhiro Watsuki, it follows Himura Kenshin, a lone samurai and survivor of the Boshin War during the Bakumatsu period who is trying to find his place after the Meiji Restoration in late 19th century Japan. Amazing.
