Slightly Peckish Tuesday

revisits boarding school life with fish pastes and Nancy Mitford in Umamimart: Slightly Peckish. Check. It. Aht!
In bookish news, I went to my first poetry reading to hear Joe Dunthorne read some interesting poems including a reverse Oulipo one just using the letter i which you can also find in Five Dials no. 8 (The Paris Issue). Very clever indeed. I’ve got his debut novel Submarine ready for me on my shelf and I’ll be watching the film (which has had some great reviews) when I’ve finished the book:) Here’s a picture of Joe reading:
I also spotted Nikesh Shukla whose Coconut Unlimited was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award, but was too shy to say hi, of course. That’s also sitting on my shelf ready for Christmas:) I’m looking forward to it as I went to a boarding school near Harrow and it’ll remind me of old times (although, of course, I went to a girls’ boarding school and not a boys’ one).
Have you been to any bookish events lately? Do you go alone or always with someone?

It sounds like a great night! I’d be too shy to introduce myself too 😦
I haven’t been to any literary events recently, but when I do I normally go by myself – none of my real life friends are interested in coming along 😦

I tend to go alone as well, although I’ve recently found a few people who actually want to go with me! So I keep asking!
